Las Vegas in the spring means one thing for the self-storage industry: the Inside Self Storage World Expo. Modern Storage made the trip — and came back with new ideas, new connections, and a renewed sense of why we do this work.
Why the ISS World Expo Matters
The Inside Self Storage World Expo is the largest self-storage tradeshow in the world. Thousands of operators, developers, investors, and vendors gather annually to share what's working, what's changing, and where the industry is heading. For a regional operator like Modern Storage, attending means getting a front-row seat to national trends — and bringing the best of them back to Arkansas.
Behind the Booth
Modern Storage had a presence on the expo floor this year — connecting with vendors exploring new technology for gate access, unit monitoring, and online rental platforms. The team also held extended conversations with other operators about what's driving customer satisfaction in competitive markets.
The Brand Conversation
One of the most consistent themes at the expo: customers are choosing storage based on brand trust, not just proximity. Digital presence, social media, and reputation management are now table-stakes for operators who want to compete. Modern Storage's investment in these areas — including our TikTok presence, podcast, and customer-first service model — drew genuine interest from peers at the show.
The Buzz
Several themes dominated conversation on the floor: automation and self-serve kiosks, AI-assisted customer service, and the continued rise of climate-controlled demand. We're already ahead on several of these fronts, and the expo helped us identify where we want to invest next.
What It Means for Our Customers
We don't go to Vegas just for the experience. We go to come back better. Every conversation, every session, every product demo gets filtered through one question: does this make things easier, safer, or more affordable for the people renting units at our 10 Arkansas locations? If the answer is yes, it goes on the list.
